Go to http://www.php.net/ and click the link labelled "documentation"

When looking for a specific function you can just type it after the
domain name eg http://www.php.net/mysql_query

I suppose, OP thinks that the current online document is for PHP 5
alone; and he needs for PHP 4.

Yes, maybe that's it. Of course, the online documentation covers both
versions but it would have been easy enough to check on the site...
