safe_mode problem

Hello all!

The ISP that hosts a few of my sites switched on safe_mode, now my calls to
Pear (require_once(' DB.php');) are not working. I get:

Warning: main(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is
1603 is not allowed to access /usr/local/lib/php/DB.php owned by uid 0

Is there any work around at my end? Permissions perhps?

Thanks in advance
BZ

Pear is installed by your ISP as the root user, and safe mode says that
the owner of the executing script has to have the same userid as that of
the executing script (which the PEAR files obviously don't).

solutions? Is there a way to install PEAR by yourself in your own
directories, or do you not have shell access on the server?

Only FTP. I could throw PHP Shell up there and try that...
Are you saying I could just FTP up the PEAR classes I need to my dirs?

Thanks in advance

Hi. I am having a problem with safe_mode in PHP-4.3.2. I was running an Apache-1.3.27 web server on solaris8 with PHP-4.3.1 with safe_mode on - and everything was working fine. Yesterday, I upgraded to Apache-1.3.28 and PHP-4.3.2 with the same settings as before - but safe_mode was acting strange. A script with a specific group was not...

Hello All, I have the following question: a hosting provider has turned local safe_mode off and the master safe_mode is on. This prevents an application/php script to work. The provider refuses to turn safe_mode off due to security reasons. They work with some kind of virtual hosting I had a quick look at the system and saw a /etc /bin...

Hi all, I've tried to compile PHP-4.3.3 for a HORDE installation and it requires that PHP is compiled with safe_mode disabled. I compiled it like this: --disable-safe_mode --enable-safe_mode=no and omitted the line all together and still cannot get it to work because when I run the test that comes with HORDE I still see that

I have just upgraded a web server to use apache 1.3.29 with php 4.3.4. Since this upgrade (from php 4.1.1) a number of our PHP paes have come up with errors complaining that safe mode is in operation and that as UIDs don't match the page cannot be served. Safe mode is NOT switched on globally either in php.ini or in the httpd.conf file for...

hi, I would like to upload a file (via a form), then read that (temporary) file and write the contents into a database. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
