Ok, what I want to do is find out the number of rows in a table. The most obvious solution is to do something like the following: $sql = "SELECT blah FROM blah WHERE 1"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $db); $num = mysql_num_rows($result); If you have a large table, to me that seems like it would be a system hog if all you want is the number of rows but not the data. I'm not sure if using mysql_unbuffered_query() would solve this, would...

Hi, I have a `category` table with columns cat_id and cat_name. And another `items` table with columns item_id, item_name and cat_id. I want a query which will select display each category name and the number of items in that category. I could do this in two sql statements, is it possible to do it in one? Thanks~

Hi, I seem to be having a problem with a DataAdapter against an Access database. My app deletes 3 records runs a da.update(dt) where dt is a data.Datatable. I then proceed to update a list to reflect that the 3 items have been deleted only to discover that the 3 items appear, however when I click on them to display their information which runs a datareader over the same database it appears that the data has now gone. I wondered whether...

I am building a MySQL query application, and I have run into a small snag. MySQL has released a set of classes that extend the .NET framework base data classes (command, connection, etc), and I am using them to interact with the MySQL server (on localhost). Everything works great on that side of the aisle. However, I have never worked with getting schema from a database before, so I am fumbling around for a workable solution to doing...

Well, here's my first post in this forum (other than saying 'HI' over in the hi forum ;-) As I said over there: ... for a little side project at home, I'm writing a ham radio web site in uby/Rails. I started it in Perl and gave up on Perl as I went from the 'display the database information on the web page' to the 're-display the information from the database and allow the user to update the database using the web page' stage and realized...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
