"Note: The PASSWORD() function is used by the authentication system in
MySQL Server; you should not use it in your own applications. For that
purpose, consider MD5() or SHA1() instead. Also see RFC 2195 for more
information about handling passwords and authentication securely in your
applications."

PASSWORD() has been changed between different MySQL versions, so should
not be treated as reliable for anything else then actual MySQL users.

Hi everyone Has anyone got the least experience in integrating the Digital Signature with an ASP.NET Web Application? Here in Denmark, as I supose in many other countries, they're promoting the digital signature. A lot of people already has one, to do their taxes, and much more. I have to use for a business-to-business e-commerce solution, where it's vital that the right user is being logged on, and not give his username and password...

Hello, I am writing a page where sensitive data is collected (over SSL) and stored in a database. I have been looking at the .NET encryption classes, but am a bit confused as to which is best for my purposes. There seem to be quite a few different ways of doing it, and I'm not sure what's most suitable for me. Anyone any suggestions? I only need to be able to store the data in such a way that someone without access to my (to see how...

Hi, Picking your collective brains again, this time regarding the storage of the key used in symmetric encryption. Let's say you have a requirement to add encryption to a C# project, so you might choose the TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider class: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.security.cryptography.tripledescryptoserviceprovider.aspx No worries - it doesn't present much of a challenge, the MSDN code samples

I have created some simple string encryption in C# to be able to store passwords in a database without them being stored in plain text. I have attached a encrypted passage from a book I like. Please let me know if it is really simple to crack. Regards j1mb0jay

I'm writing a Web application using PHP5 connecting to a MySQL database. I've told the client's application administrator to look after back-ups of the database by using the "Export" option in phpMyAdmin to automatically copy the database contents (recorded as SQL statements) to his desktop. Is there some way I can include encryption in this download process? (And equivalently, decryption should he need to restore the database from a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
