How to substitute a character for another one

I want to substitute a character (e.g. 'R') for another one ('-R')
within a
word: 'RECORD' ---> '-RECO-RD'

Is it possible by using any PHP command? Regards.

$i = "record";

$x = str_replace("r" , "-r", $i); // looks through i for r's, replaces
them with -r's

echo $x;

that should work.

I need an Epic Editor substitute. I tried XML Spy and it does not meet my needs. I can't afford Epic Editor multi-user license at the moment and I need to render a proof-of-concept for a management team. I'm looking for something with Word-like functionality where I can dump a bunch of text, highlight a paragraph and apply the DTD's tag. Right now I'm at Notepad. I need something better. Is there some Open source type tool like...

What I want to do sounds simple, but it's defeating me. I want to substitute all occurences of a colon : character in a string with an @ character -- unless the : occurs within a single or double-quoted substring. Surely this can be done with regular expressions? Any regex gurus know how to do it?

Should it be possible to create a custom class, 'Float', which would behave as a drop-in replacement for the builtin float type? As mentioned in another thread, I once tried this in rather a hurry to try and catch some floating point naughtiness, but was stumped in various places. Is there a fundamental obstacle to doing this? thanks, G.A.

I need to write a query in Access that returns the results of a text field with the spaces replaced with underscores. So, if the data in the field was 'hello world', the query results would show 'hello_world'. The SUBSTITUTE function in excel does this. I can't find an equivalent function in Access. In case this helps the syntax in Excel is SUBSTITUTE(text,old_text,new_text,instance_num) Text is the text or the reference to a cell...

Hello everyone, Wide character and multi-byte character are two popular encoding schemes on Windows. And wide character is using unicode encoding scheme. But each time I feel confused when talking with another team -- codepage -- at the same time. I am more confused when I saw sometimes we need codepage parameter for wide character conversion, and sometimes we do not need for conversion. Here are two examples,

Hi all. This is a rather long posting but I have some questions concerning the usage of character entities in XML documents and PCI security compliance. The company I work for is using a third party ecommerce service for hosting its online store. A few months ago this third party commerce site began using PGP file encryption on XML files (e.g. web orders) transferred to us as part of the ongoing PCI security compliance.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
