System Command

So I'm trying to do a dir on a particularly folder, but something simple as this is requiring me to use a batch file rather than doing it in PERL itself.

For example, if I do this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. system ("cd N:/Temp");
  2. system ("dir >JAVA.txt");
it doesn't work, because each system call is a separate session. This means the dir is called on the working directory. This is obviously not what I want. Therefore I'm resorting to use a batch file and calling it, which seems like a horrible way to do it. Is there some way to do this in Perl only, without the use of a batch file?

Is it that you just want to do a directory listing of something like "N:\Temp"? If that is the case, why not put in one command what you are trying to do a dir of? You shouldn't need to cd over there to do a dir of it.

In addition, have you looked into the chdir command?

Yes thats true I can simply do that, but in other cases, I'd like to be able to run a single system session in which I can call as many commands as I want without using a batch file (basically because handling all those inputs is a pain).
