Perl Version Upgrade from Perl 5.6.1 to Perl 5.8.8

15
Hi yah!

Currently, my system has built-in Perl(5.6.1). Actually, there's another version Perl 5.0 when I checked.. Now, I want to upgrade my Perl to Perl 5.8.8.

Do I need to remove the previous version before installing Perl 5.8.8? I'm planning to install from source.

My box uses Solaris 9.

Please help.... Thanks!

No, it is not a requirement that you uninstall older versions of perl when upgrading. In fact, it might be advisable to not uninstall any older version until you are sure that you can install the newer version fully.

Afterwords, it might be advisable to uninstall the old version. However, just note that this might lead to failure of some legacy scripts depending on what technique was used to install any secondary packages.

With regards to the legacy scripts, it is always a good idea to do your build, and then test your legacy scripts individually to sure there is not adverse effects on their operation.
