Using Perl in Windows XP - command prompt problem

First of hi to everybody as I'm new here ; )

I have just installed Active Perl 5.8 to my computer running on Windows XP, easy : )

I have my book Perl for Dummies 4th Edition as I am just starting out with Perl & know nothing about writing code in any form.

Here is my problem, in my book I am at the section "running active perl in a command prompt window" . So I have my command prompt window open and type C:\Perl as instructed. This as I understand is suppose to get my Perl directory but it does not.

The following is in my command prompt window before I type anything in:

Microsoft Windows XP [version 5.1.2600]
<C> Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Mr Green Dog>

Can you guys/girls give me a hint on what I may have done wrong. This is my 1st step and already I'm stuck : (

thanks people.
