Curses chgat

Does anyone have a working example of using the `chgat' function from
Curses.pm? I've tried something similar to the following:

,----
| use Curses;
| initscr();
| $win = new Curses;
| ...
| $win->move($y,$x);
| $win->chgat(20,A_BOLD,0);
| $win->refresh;
`----

(to change 20 characters starting at ($x,$y)) and I get nothing. Any
comments would be helpful (a working example moreso).

Thanks!
