Simple Search supporting Swedish characters?

I am from Sweden and I am trying to use Simple Search from Matt's
Script Archive on my home page (web server is located in the United
States) but it cannot find anything with Swedish special characters in
it. Does anybody know if something can be done, or where I might find
some info about how to do it myself?

Any help would be most appreciated, thanks,
