How to find that some perl program is already running.

Hi,

I have to call a perl program(if it is not running) from a perl program
How can I check if my program is already running or not.

I somehow, didn't like the idea of using some file as tag.

My platform could be a MAC OS or windows.

Please throw some light on how can I do it.

Thanks and Regards,
Shrek

Maybe you can get a list of running programs from the operating system and parse the output to see if the perl programs name is in there. I have no Mac experience but with Windows it most likely depends on which version you are using.

I have a custom Perl application (programmed by myself) that is used to rename files. For some reason, within the last month, it is no longer working properly. Prior to this I've been using it for several years without problem. It's a relatively simple program that reads the file names from the current directory and replaces strings of text...

I am just starting to play with CGI programs on a box with RH 9. Testing to see if I had the stuff installed I used a very simple script like so... #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use CGI; It told me that it couldn't find CGI.pm and sure enough, that apparently doesn't come on the RedHat 9 distro. So I installed the latest version of...

Trying to solve this with a regex approach rather than the programmatic approach of counting up and down the levels. I have a fairly complicated HTML page that I want to simplify. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
