ORA03113: end-of-file on communication channel

Hi,
I encountered the above error when I tried to startup nomount a brand new
database during database creation. The oracle version I am using is 8.1.7.4
and it sits on Red Hat Linux ES version 2.1. Appreciate if anyone can help.
Thanks.

Likely your semaphore parameters for Linux do not match the Oracle
configuration. Oracle requires 2 * #processes + 10 semaphores.
