UTL_FILE.OPEN problems

I have created a directory for the path name I use for a UTL_FILE.OPEN
call, but when I run my call I get error ORA-29280 invalid directory
path. What am I failing to do? Thanks for your help,

Candy

the exact directory path must be listed in the INIT.ORA file under UTL_FILE
parameter, ie:
utl_file_dir = c:\oracle\utl_file\oex

It's correct if you want to use init.ora to enter UTL_FILE parameters. But's not all you have to do.

First of all you have to create a DIRECTORY:
create or replace DIRECTORY doc_path AS '<PATH to your docs>';
-- doc_path will be your pl/sql-name for your document path

Second Step select your document:
filehandle := UTL_FILE.FOPEN('doc_path','<document_name>','r');
-- dont't forget the ' in front of and ' after doc_path even if it looks like a variable!

After processing don't forget to close the file:
UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(filehandle);

This works!
