Database links are mainly used to access the tables of the another databse in to local database.

For Eg: If U want to access table EMP of databse B from database A then U need to create a DBLINK between database A and B in database A.

U can create 2 types od DB link:

1. Private DBLINK
2. PUBLIC DBLINK

To create Private DBLINK,use the following syntax:

CREATE DATABASE LINK <dblink name> CONNECT TO <user_name> IDENTIFIED BY <Password> USING <Hostname>
