If the service is running means the databse is up.

if the database is up then clients can connect to the server.

and the server can listen to the client requests.

Hi debasisdas,
Sorry, I have one more doubt "If the service is running means the databse is up"

We can start the database with theseoptions nomount,mount,open,force.
But if we specify
STARTUP OPEN;
it will give error. means service is not up;

a) then whats the use of these 4 options when there is service to up the database?

b) Whats the difference between this 4 options and service?

c) i am not understanding the use of this service and what type of service it is providing;

Regards,
Naveen
