Reports error in 9iAS R2

PRODUCT: Oracle 9iAS R2 on Windows 2000
ERROR: REP -0238 Security Server Authentication Failed

I was trying to stop the reports service and this is what I did:
Shutdown mid-tier processes -- no error
Changed username/password and encrypted=no in
D:\ora_home2\reports\conf\rep_xxx.conf file
Restarted mid-tier processes
Went into OEM (port 1810), and tried to stop reports server, but got
error: REP -0238 Security Server Authentication Failed

As a result, cannot stop reports service.

Any help would be great.

Replaced the changed copy of the configuration file with a copy of the
original & realize that the Reports Server uses SSO for authentication.
It is past time for you to RTFM before making any more changes.
