In oracle OS username and database user name are diferent.
when oracle i installed on the system,by default it creates around 23 users.
These accounts must be unlocked at the time of installation (which are locked by default.) so use the user namepassword and the host string (name of the database).

for ex

username----SCOTT
password----TIGER
hoststring----ORCL
