Standby Database Issues

Hi ,

Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 on HP-UX 11.0
EMC2 Disk Array

We are in a process of implementing DR Site using Standby Database
feature of Oracle. We have tested it on 2 NT machines here & things
are going fine.
I have few questions about Standby Database which I could not find
answer in Backup Recovery Guide.

1. What is the sequence of Startup & Shutdown ? Which shd be started
/stopped first ? Primary or Standby ?

2. If I want to take cold backup of Primary Database , can I do that ?
Do I need to anything else for ReSyncing Standby ? I am quite curious
abt this as Cold Backup on every week is a practice here .
e.g. I have copied cold backup from tape to standby & all archive logs
from that backup to standby site. Now everything is gong fine. But if
I shutdown promary for backup , what shd be the procedure ? Do I need
to copy cold backup again ?

There is a separate standby manual.

2 Making cold backups of a primary database with a standby database is
just what it is: silly. If you make a cold backup you should
definitely NOT!!!!!
copy the archivelogs to the standby site.
