IF TABLE TAB_XX CONTAINS THE FIELD BOOKING WHICH IS 24 CHAR

UPDATE TAB_XX
SET BOOKING = SUBSTR(BOOKING,1,4) || '<YOUR_STRING>' || SUBSTR(BOOKING,16,9)
(WHERE CONDITION IF ANY)

Hope this helps
