usb ethernet adaptor setting for windows 8.1

Hi frndzz, i have a broadband connection which i m using in laptop. nw i would like to use my desktop for net surfing bt the ethernet port not working so i bought an usb ethernet adaptor bt couldnt connect the internet. it was showing unidentified network....plz suggest sumthing.
