My mac running mountain lion can only communicate w wireless printer for a short time

Hi ! I just bought a new Epson wireless printer and set it up with my wireless network. I've assigned my printer a static ip through static DHCP leases in my router so that it has the same IP all the time. However, my mac book pro 2011 is frequently dropping the connection to it after a while even though it works for shorter periods of time. When that happens I get the error message "printer not connected" even though I know it is on the same network as my computer and that it has the same ip all the time. I have the latest firmware on both my router and my printer. How do I fix this? So that the mac and printer stays connected all the time without dropping the connection to each other?

Best Regards
Henrik

What is the model of the printer?

Is there a setting on the printer that puts it to 'sleep' or some similar setting?

Finally, what is the duration of the timeout? Does this happen after 15 minutes of the printer being turned on? At 12 noon every day? 5 minutes after something is printed?
