Issues Involved in Implementing Fingerprint Recognition for Network Logon

Users at the University of Midchester currently log on to the University network using just a username and password.

The University is considering changing over to using fingerprint recognition for logon, so please advise the University about the issues they need to consider when making their decision to change or not.the extra network infrastructure that would need to be put in place for such a system to be used.

Staff and students are able to access the University network from off-campus. There are approximately 5,000 off-campus logons per day, from computers that are either the property of the user concerned or a public computer (eg, in an Internet café).

This sounds an awful lot like a homework question.

What are your thoughts on it? What would you advise?

i am troubled about the offcampus logins..i.e students who access the network from outside the campus....so i wanna know is there any technology which can take the fingerprint as the security to access the network,if so what is the infrastructure we needed for that.

Fingerprint network login is possible, but i dont know presently such kind of technology availabe in market.

I just wanted to understand, why do you want only fingerfrint? , there lot of other ways you can establish very secure connection between two network.

I would not go with a fingerprint solution! it is much more costly to do that, instead of developing proper network security through VPN.

In addition the hardware for the fingerprinting can get expensive because you need to be able to process a minimum of 7-10 points. Any less than that there is going to most likely be problems in my opinion.
