Mapped network folder is not showing in Control Panel

1
Hi All,

I am new to the networking field. I recently had to share a folder in a Windows XP machine A with another XP machine B. The folder in machine A has some .xls files which I need to access through ODBC connections in machine B. When I go to control panel of machine B, add a new DSN, select the workbook, network, I can browse to the network folder. If I need to use a different .xls file from machine A, I again create a DSN for xls in machine B, tries to select workbook, but this time, the same list appears as when I added the first DSN. That is, it no more shows the mapped drive letter in the list. I can still browse to the shared folder, map to a different drive letter and complete the task. But shows an error that network drive letter has been mapped already, if I choose the letter used for the previous DSN. This ends up in a situation where every time I create a new DSN in machine B, I have to delete the old network drive letter mapping to bring it back to the list to be reusable. I have other computers, but the same situation is handled normally there, where, when I add a new DSN, it shows all the previous mappings in the network list. I checked some forums and got the information that this could be due to a registry setting. Can someone tell me if there is a safe way of correcting this issue?
