Hi, hello, help!
I am new to networking so please forgive me if this is a simple question. I have been at this for hours to no avail.
I"m trying to network my Mac G5, running OSX 10.4.7 Tiger, a PC laptop running Windows 2000, and an HP Laserjet 4500, with a Linksys Wireless-G router. All are set up with network cords running to the router. The router is working since I can access the internet on both computers.
I followed the directions on This page to try and set up the printer in Windows. I also downloaded a driver.
There is an IP address on the front of the printer, but when I tried to set that address up in a port, it didn't recognize. The Linksys help person told me to change the end of the ip to 99, and it did seem to work, it created the port at least. It does recognize in the printer window but it will not print a test page.
I'm still trying to find out how to print a test page directly from the printer to rule out any issues there. I would also hook the printer up directly to one or the other, but it does not have a USB port. I"m not sure if I have the proper printer cords for that, I'll have to check. Also, I downloaded a universal driver for the Mac, but get an error when I try to add it.
Here are my questions:
1. What is the proper way to set up that printer and get it to recognize? have I done everything correctly?
2. :How do I get the PC to see the Mac and the Mac to see the PC for file sharing between them?
3. Will the Mac see my printer as well, if I can get it working, and if so, how do I set that up? I think some versions of the 4500 are compatible with Mac but I"m not sure since this one is not USB. I did find a driver for it though. My primary design is done on the Mac so it's a hassle to export to the PC to get it to print - I really need it to go directly from the Mac if possible.
I have tried to find these answers on my own but at this point I'm lost, and in over my head. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
