How traffic can be seen by network admin.

My friends has recently joined a big Fortune500 company and is a worried man.
since this is his inital days in the organization he wants to be careful as to who is watching what is he typing on his destop . Is there a way Network admin can see what he is doing by pretending thay are watching the network traffice ? Hi is using SunOne client to a Solaris on his Destop.

I'm sure, if he works at a Fortune 500 company, that they are monitoring network traffic, but that should be described in the Company Policy - usually there is just a proxy or something out there to block access to what they don't want. However, if he is at a Fortune 500 company, they also have a LOT of users, and unless he does something glaringly obvious, I doubt anyone will get after him. Why is your friend so worried?

The best technology to monitor network traffic is Cisco Netflow. Yet you don't need to use a Cisco router for this. You could install a Netflow probe on the router, e.g., opensource and free ndsad (http://www.netup.biz/ndsad-probe.php) or ipcad.
