Can we use IIS to set up an INTRANET?

I have installed an IIS server. I've tried using it with only one computer (it seems that my machine is the server and at the same time the client). And the server name is localhost.
I don't have any idea if I can set up an intranet using IIS.
If it's possible. How?
Would I still use localhost as the server name?
Please help me.
I am still a novice in networking.

You can set up an intranet using any websever, so IIS should work.

All an intranet is, is locally served webpages that do not require that you go out into the world of the internet to get.

Your webserver will need to be configured to accept connections that aren't local (i.e. not on the same machine as the server), sorry but I don't know if this is an option and if so where to set it in IIS.

You do not use localhost, localhost is a synonym for this machine, however you should just be able to use the machine name, i.e. in your web browser just type

//<ServerMachineName>

Alternitively if you network has a DNS then you could also set up an alias for the server (which is handy if you need to move it to a different machine) but this is behond what I know.
