US Robotics wireless print server setup

16 New Member
Hey all, I'm using a US robotics wireless router, and I want to connect a HP Color Laserjet 1600 to it for use as a network printer. I followed the directions from the USR website carefully (http://www.usr.com/support/5461/5461-files/printer_install ation/index.html) and when I get to step #10 the wizard pops up an error saying "Windows cannot connect to the printer..." what am I doing wrong?

Update: Called US Robotics, they have no idea what's wrong. Called HP - wont offer support. Anyone know what to do?

scrap those guidelines, i personally think they are pretty poor. surely the HP printer allows you to set a static IP address? if this is the case, setup a static ip address on the printer with an address of your network, then just add a printer using TCPIP port. also make sure port 9100 is enabled on the printer, as we had an awful time in work recently. got two new printers, set them up completely 100% the same, one worked, other wouldnt. both would ping, telnet, you name it, except one wouldnt print. both exactly the same, wrecked our brains, could not figure out what was going.... turned out... one had port 9100 disabled out of the box, the other didnt. very poor hp, the more i use hp, the more i do not like them! however, try what i suggested and that should get you going, from looking at the guidelines, you are technically "sharing" the printer off the router, as opposed to having the printer as a separate entity on your lan... if that makes sense!

Not a network printer, it's connected to the print server via USB. No network card :(

Yes, the drivers are installed on the system, and I am able to print when the printer is connected to the PC via USB.

Don't think anyone out there has any answers on this. I was told that the person who set up this print server before me had the same troubles. I was told "he just put in the IP" I'm guessing that means that he added a port in the add printer wizard and typed in the IP Address. However, I can't seem to duplicate his exact procedure. Anyone out there have any information to share?

I setup a usb printer with this print server last week. I had to download a different print driver to use on the XP computers since the existing print driver for that model, an HP 6100 multifunction was not designed to be a network printer; HP has a list of alternative print drivers based on the model of system you have...

for the 6120 multfunction office jet I had to use a 90N print driver... (working from memory, i believe that was the number)...

the first system worked fine... I ran into a problem with the second computer, i am still trying to sort out... it wouldn't take the name of the printer / via the print driver...

Add a printer, then select "network printer", then "Connect using internet or home office network", and paste "http://192.168.2.1:163 1/printers/My_Printer" into the URL field, then prceed to select the appropriate drivers for your printer.

If this does not work, pull up the status of your printer device by typing 192.168.2.1 in your address bar in explorer, log in, then look at "Printer location" under device status.

Hi, could you post where I can find that list, please? Since I have some problems myself maybe I can solve them that way. I can print via the USRobotics router printer http-port, but only, everytime I start up Windows XP or when I connect to a storage device (CD/DVD/hard disk/USB stick) XP starts installing the printer drivers again. I'm using a HP Officejet 5510 printer.

Hello. I am a n00b in the field of programming. I studied mIRC, html, max script, and very little c++ logistics. I was wondering if what specific areas of c++ might help for robotics. If you have heard of FIRST. I am a member on one of the robotics teams known as Team 1241. I was once a junior programmer on their team however I did not live upto their expectations since my knowledge of c++ was very very very little. Now I come forth to you...

Hi there, I've recently developed a VBA-program in Excel that fetches and presents data from a distant Access database over a wireless peer-to-peer network (both computers running Win XP Pro). It has worked relatively well for some time, but recently I'm often encountering errors when trying to fetch the data. I am pretty sure that this is because of a poor wireless connection since I'm also having some problems e.g. copying files...

Thank you for any help you can give me. I have a database that I've been working on... a backend for the server and front ends for the users. Now I've found out that the network is wireless and that wireless & Access don't get along... I have been reading what I could find in this group... but I would like to clarify. The users have Windows XP... so I put the backend on the server in the root directory and put a front end for each user...

Would appreciate if anyone could suggest how I can improve the performance in the wireless network. Any one has tried running application in 802.11b vs 802.11g? I am developing it using vb.net, ado.net and SQL server for database Thanks Al

Hi all, I am about to distribute an A97-runtime app. which will be used on a LAN by approx. 30 users. The network is pretty good, but there are a few managers who have wireless laptops... Of course they also want to access the db. I am a bit afraid of possible corruption due to the wireless connections. ==> Do I have to be afraid indeed? If so, what is the best way to deal with this? Should I trace the wireless connections...

Hello, I am working on an Acc2003 app for my company. In the interest of reducing chances of corruption due to unstable network connectivity, I would like to either prevent users from running it through a wireless connection, or limit their use to read-only. I have absolutely no idea if this is possible, and if so, how. Is there any way from within Access to get the list of routers they are connecting through? Ideally, I'd like to keep...

Hello all, this is my first post in these forums, so bear with me if I've broken a few rules here or there. Anyhow, I would like to ask if anyone if familiar with the XBee Pro, here, and documentation is available here. The documents don't match the product exactly, the links from the product page ended up to the documents page I supplied. The difference between the models are just the effective range (I think), and the models are...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development projectplanning, coding, testing, and deploymentwithout human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
