The WHOIS lookup not necessarily gives you the geographical location of the hosting. The simple way is to use one of those online geoIP lookup services such as GeoIP lookup and others.

Good luck!

Windows XP caches for 1 day:
http://support.microso ft.com/kb/318803

IE4+ caches DNS for 30 minutes:
http://support.microso ft.com/support/kb/articles/Q263/5/58.ASP

The first attempt to resolve each unique hostname would be the longest wait which should be fairly fast to begin with unless you have alot of latency to your DNS server. After it is cached there should not be any noticable difference between using an IP or using the Fully Qualified Domain Name.

Also, you will find websites that are hosted on the same server as others and trying to find the page using the IP address will fail or display the site which is configured to be the "Default" site if no matching host header is found. The server hosting the multiple sites only knows what website to open based on the FQDN requested in the URL.

If you read the other posts you'll see that that method doesn't always work. I expect it will work with fewer and fewer as time goes on as sites protect themselves more tightly from malicious attacks and scanning.

Hi I am sending emails from my website. The from field usually is an email address, but alot of email readers also seem to be able to pickup a "from real name". I read somewhere that I can set this by putting the name followed by the actual email address in parathesis....like this... MailMessage msgMail = new MailMessage(); msgMail. To = EmailAddress.Text; msgMail. From = "funny email Website" + "(website@funny.net)"; msgMail.Subject =...

I have a C# Web Application, and we are getting banged repeatedly by a web crawler at a specific IP address. I did an internet lookup on the IP address (http://www.ip2location.com), and it just says it is owned by Cox Communications. I don't know if it belongs to a specific customer of Cox, or if it belongs to Cox themselves. What is the normal procedure for finding the owner of the IP? Do I call Cox and complain about abuse? Or is...

Hi, I have 2 fields in a database: 'email' and 'website'. In the majority of cases, the website field is not populated even though the email address is. In 90% of cases, the website will be 'www.' followed by whatever is after the '@' symbol in the email address. Would anyone be able to help me with the SQL that would take whatever is after the '@' sign in the email address, add it to 'www.' and populate the

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
