Remote debugging tool MSVSmon.exe - Not able to attched the process

308 256MB
Hi All,

I am trying to debug the process remotely.

OS for Remote Machine : Windows server 2000
OS for the local machine : Windows XP professional
Application : Build in vb.net

Here are the steps I folllowed -

a) Ran the msvsmon.exe on remote machine. Checked for the port IPSEC (TCP : port 500/4500) and DCOM (TCP : port 135 ) so as to made them available for the communication.

b)On Local Machine ; With IDE I tried attaching the remote process .It says "Remote debugging monitor is not running on remote machine"

Am I missing anything ?

I did exclude these ports from my local machine also from the firwall.

Kindly Help.

Thanks!

You have to have identical username and password on both machines.
And by this I mean the username has to have been *created* identical. You cannot rename "bob" to "chuck" to make them match, even if that looks identical to you and me.

Try testing with the firewall turned off completely instead of just a couple ports punched through.

Remote debugging whether on a physical machine or a virtual machine still has the same requirements. I found a lot of good tips in the VMworkstation blog.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

We have a standalone machine dedicated for running the application that I wann to debug remotely. The credentials that I am using are same on both the machines.

I haven't tried disabling firwall as it may raise security concerns ; as it is the server that host multiple applications to run.

I referrred the link you asked. I won't be able to try this as this is a standalone machine and we cannot replicate it as a Virtual OS.Please correct me if I am wrong.

Let me know anything else that I havn't loked at.

Thanks!
