how to use jquery in asp.net 2.0

i simply want to use j query in asp.net 2.0. so will you tell me the requirements for this purpose and from where i will get all my required data.it will be best that if you can give any example of j query in asp.net 2.0 .
when i was using j query in asp.net browser is showing an '$' sign error.
so please help me by giving a good example .
