If your application asks for .NET frameworks, then yes you need it.
If your car asks for gasoline, is it essential?

If the program was written using the .NET framework then it needs the .NET framework to operate.

Why you are going to the VBpro page I have no idea.

Googling for "Framework download" should get you plenty of links to the MSDN pages for their download.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
is the download page for framework 2.0

If you run Windows Update from your computer I would expect that it will show all the frameworks you DON'T have installed as needing to be installed.

You are asking for an entire book.
Many books in fact have been written about .NET

You might like to read Microsoft's .NET overview as a place to start.

Sorry sorry, other than programming, is it essential? And which latest version compatible with Windows XP SP-2 is available for free download?

Thank you so much

I still don't understand what you are driving at.

What is it you are trying to accomplish? Do you *need* .NET to write a windows program? No, you could do it in C++.

Well Sir, I am first and foremost grateful for your kind attention.

Some applications like RSS readers .exes ask for a .Net framework to install in my PC? So, I ask is it essential?
And once I click to get it, it takes me to Visual Basic Professional page, I think it's pro package!

<laugh> That sounds like a kid on a playground, the first day of school.
Too funny. Thanks! I was in the middle of a project that is driving me nuts and needed the laugh.

See you sooner than later..........:D..I thought you'd be damn serious, but you laughed. That's exciting..

Well back to business, I am currently downloading Windows Live Package, and I saw the recent log that it's downloading .NET Framework. So, having faith on my narrow-band connection, I can really sleep with nose's hairs up...hehe... Thank You...See you soon. Bye. You are good.
