external dtd or schema with xerces ?

I have a list of xml files without dtd but, I have a dtd for them in a file.
I want load this dtd with my xerces parser for using the
setIncludeIgnorableWhitespace method.

Does anyone have sample of that use with dtd or schema ?
I have look the Redirect example of the xerces doc, but I think it
was'nt the good example for my problem.

Thanks
