Search core result webpart - Filter by scheduling start date

Hi,

Currently for Announcement library a custom column "publish start date" is
added and under the search result webpart changed the xslt by filtering the
result based on the publish start date .Publish start date is not mandatory.

if the publish start date <"" and publish start date <= today then
the item get displayed under the search results
else
the item won't get displayed.
Is there any way to do the above with out changing the xslt and do the
filtering by scheduling start date [Sharepoint out of box column] instead of
the custom columns publish start date?
Thanks.
