XML adoption

Hi,
Does anybody have links to free available articles on the web which deal
with
a) the topic of adoption of XML technology in different industries. Some
statistics would be great.
b) the strategic use of XML. What role does XML play in current IT
strategies.
More important than the future perspective would be the TODAY's state.

Thanks
F-J
