IE 7 won't allow downloads from email

I have just bought a laptop with Vista installed (Yeah, I know), and it came
pre-loaded with IE7.0.6001.18000. When I am on the net to download WIN
updates or Norton updates no problem. I have an email telling me to click on
a link and download a copy of some software I bought today. When I click on
the link instead of going to the site I get an immediate download menu and
asked to save or run it. I've clicked both ways. The problem is that after I
click on either run or save the download commences and then this error from
WIN states "Internet Explorer cannot download Algebrator401Install.exe from
www.algebra-online.com. An internal error occurred in the Microsoft Internet
extensions."

I have changed the security settings to enable downloads and some of the
advanced settings to allow for downloads but still keep getting this error
message. I am running a Sony laptop with WIN Vista Home Premium, have a
Pentium(R) Dual CPU at 1.87 GHz with 2 GB of Ram.

I need to download this puppy as it is only on my PC and I am leaving town
for three months and need it for my online school while I'm away. Please
help. I have been in the communities for about four hours researching this
issue and nothing close to it has shown up yet. I did do my research before
posting so I think this is a first. Thanks again. Steven

It appears that your research did not include finding an appropriate group
for your question. This is a .NET programming group, not an IE group.

Here's how to find the group you need:

As you appear to be using a web interface:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.aspx

Click the + beside your language. then scroll down to Windows. In Windows,
find the category for Internet Explorer. Open it and find a group to post
in.
