HP Pavilion tx1000 laptop, Office 07 and networking issues

I have an HP Pavilion tx1000 laptop running Vista Business that has been
recovered, reformatted, its registry scrubbed and I am still having problems.
I have been on the phone several times with HP and of course they say the
problems are not hardware/software issues; that it is network errors.
Here are some problems:
1) I can connect to our work domain, but I am unable to save back to the
files on the server unless I first save them to my desktop and drag them to
the file manually. But I can create a new folder on the server, but cannot
rename it.
2)I am unable download updates - even when I take the laptop home. The HP
updates won't download. I tell the computer to allow it but nothing happens.
A black screen pops up for less than a second and then it disappears.

Thanks in advance for help.
