microsoft word--document recovery

i was typing up my essay for a school report, but all of a sudden the screen
said that it was logging off and then is said that it was shutting down, but
then then the computer restarted on its own because i didn't touch it top
begin with. anyway, when i finally logged back in and tried to open the
microsoft word office, it said not responding when i tried clicking on the
autorecovered document. when i tried opening other microsoft word windows
there was nothing there. do you know how i can retieve it again? can anyone
help me?
