Can Sign-In at specific discussion thread page

Anyone know why I would not be able to Sign-In from a direct Thread
Discussion page? I can only Sign-In from the general Microsoft Discussion
Page and write this message.
But I'm not able to partake in a particular thread discussion, as a result.

I'm using a new Compaq Presario SR5223 desktop, Vista Home Premium 32.
(Vista SP1 not installed yet.)

Thank you,
Lillian
