C# DropDownList ignoring value

Hello,

I'm writing a .Net 2.0 web application in C# and I have a strange problem with something as simple as a dropdownlist.

As a test I have added a single dropdownlist to an empty web page and in the code behind I have the following code:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {
            ListItemCollection lic = new ListItemCollection();
            ListItem li = new ListItem();
            li.Text = "The text";
            li.Value = "thevalue";
            lic.Add(li);
            DropDownList1.DataSource = lic;
            DropDownList1.DataBind();
        }
 

When I run the web app and check the source code I get this:

<select name="DropDownList1" onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack(\'DropDownList1\',\'\')', 0)" id="DropDownList1">
<option value="The text">The text</option>
</select>
 

It ignores the li.Value="thevalue"; !
Any ideas why?

I would guess that you did not define the DisplayMember and ValueMember for your dropdownlist.
