slow computer

My computer used to be very fast, opening programs in less than a second...
now something has changed, and it takes between 1-5 minutes to open
programs.... i can't defrag my computer, because it fails halfway through,
because of the slow speed. i don't know what to do.... except that because of
how slow it is, most of the time i'd rather just leave it off... but i have
work to do, so i bear it with a large grain of salt.... is there a(ny)
solution(s) out there?

You say that your defrag fails, this may be indicating a disk fault.
This will slow down your computer. What is the error you get with
defrag?
I would back up your important data just in cast.
Run chkdsk.

When did you last check for spyware etc? Check what's set to
run on startup, and post windows related question to a
windows group instead of a dotenet group ;-)

Try a more suitable newsgroup. This newsgroup is for Microsoft ".NET"
programming questions.

Did you not see the replies in this thread telling the original poster that
this was not a newsgroup for general Windows questions? It is a newsgroup
for general questions about programming in the Microsoft ".NET" programming
platform.
