Asset ID

Can the system assign an asset id automatically or will i always have to
enter one manually? If so, what do I need to set up or where do I need to go.
Thanks!

Please provide context for your question. What software are you using? If
you tell us at least that, we can guide you to an appropriate group for your
question.
