Actually I don't want to use .NET. Those who want to use it probably do so for some of the reasons given as advantages here.

Quick benefits...

Rapid prototyping, rapid development

Easy to learn the basics without being able to do too much damage

Reasonable performance

Great for web development if you are a Microsoft shop

I was going to send a note to MS to change the name to .ter or .int but I haven't decided which. I'm still trying to figure out how they came up with the name for those annoying furry feline creatures.
