Ungrading from VS2005 to VS2008?

I have upgraded some of my projects (C++ & C#) from VS2005 to VS2008. I have noticed that all my executables have increased in size by about 50% in release mode.

I have examined project properties and cannot see what could cause this to happen. Even a simple "Hello World" console app compiles into a larger EXE in VS2008 compared with VS2005.

This is kind of important for frequently downloaded components.

Has anyone else observed this? Will appreciate any help or insights.
