Bubbling the specific instance of a web page to window.top

Hi,
In a previous thread Busting out of frames an in depth discussion was held regarding the most effective method to show a page, which start somewhere in a lower level, and is then transfered to the topmost level.

What I want to know is if there is a way, for the window.top to take on the specific instance, and not a new instance of the form ?

Thus if I only set window.top.location.href = self.location.href this will bring up a new instance of the window, and my current instance is thus lost. I think this also has something to do with the fact that I do a server.transfer() to the child level page.
When the page then loads, I check to see if it is the topmost level, if not i set it to top level. But this is where the problem comes in, as my URL is still showing to the child page, due to server.transfer() the context is lost.

Thanks in advance.
