(asp.net) usercontrol in a repeater

I have a repeater (which has only an usercontrol in its itemtemplate) that will allow the user to add rows to itself. To do this without losing any already existing data, i am saving values from the existing usercontrols before a databind and repopulating the newly created usercontrols after the databind.

It works fine for the textboxes, but it simply doesn't select anything in the controls that work with "selecting" items, like listbox, dropdownlist and checkboxlist.

Any ideas?

BTW, this only happens on postback, since on the first page load, the data read from the database is selected in the empty usercontrol, but after adding new rows, the empty usercontrol in the last repeateritem cannot display the exact same data read from the database, although it thinks that the correct values (and not the default ones) were selected all-right.
