Hello everyone!
We're running a windows service application and it gets this error: "the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
It works in most machines but for these 2 other machines (from our consultant & client), one is running on WinXP and the other is Windows Server 2003, the application doesn't seem to run.
In addition to this, the WinServer2003 machine logs this error in the System event log (not sure if this is the same error from other machine): "Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the <application> service to connect."
Meanwhile, when we checked the WinXP machine, it has 100% CPU usage while the service is being run. This is not the case for the other machines where our service is working successfully.
I am thinking of the following reasons / possible ways to verify why this happens:
- .NET framework service pack is not latest (although we've checked both machines and they have the latest SP) :|
- The other services that our application depends on is not started before we start our service
- Since we are getting data from the SQL database, there is a permissions issue with SQL Server (either with how it is installed or the permissions for the database itself
- The machine cannot handle the service (depending on its specs)
I am asking our test team to adjust the time-out period, just in case it needs more time to execute -- this is still ongoing but I'll give feedback here as soon as it is finished as well.
I would really appreciate it if anyone can give me any insights on this issue. Thanks a lot! :)
