Storing a doc file in BLOB?

Hi !
im workin wit asp.net vs05 and with SQL server
i want store a document file in a BLOB field. My doubt is
1. Can a document file saved in a database or should it be transformed to text and get stored.
if so kindly tell me the procedure to achieve it !
