Win XP SP2 will not install

A friend gave me a seven year old Dell 4100 running XP Pro. It actually dual
boots to Win 2000 Pro also. That won't install Win XP SP 2 because this copy
of the OS "may not be valid". C'mon, this machine's been sitting in a garage
for five years. I'm pretty sure it's a valid copy, as my friend's father is
absolutely, impeccably honest. Is there any way around this

Not to be short or smart with you. But why are you posting to a programmer's
forum/NG?

Why can you not post to Microsoft.Public.Windows.XP.General the NG/forum you
should be posting to with your issue?

You should look very carefully in the dropdown boxes if you're posting via
the Web/browser user interface and make sure you have the correct forum/NG
seletected before posting. I hear that is a problem with some users trying
to post in the MS forums/NG(s).

Actually, you weren't very smart at all (literally) seeing as how you didn't
even contribute anything to solving the problem. Mind as well should have
just spared us the waste of bandwidth.

To the OP:

- You should get in touch with Microsoft (phone, email, something - a
support person).

No one in these newsgroups will be able to help you with this problem
(unless MS employee) in a "legit" fashion.

To you:

I did give this person help on the same post over 24 hours ago if you
bothered to look, instead of running your mouth to me with a waste of my
time with you concerning this.

BTW, I went out of my way and gave more help than your lip dribbling attempt
at helping this person, far more than your lip dribble.

I helped him and he asked me how to get to the XP NG, which I'll assume he
made the same mistake again in posting to the wrong NG, as many do posting
to this NG.

I guess you can't see the amount of mis-posted posts to this NG.

You are an a$$-hole with the wrong assumption.

Thank you for letting me know that I'm posting to the wrong place. Very sorry
about that. Not sure what you mean by 'NG', but will try to find out. This
was a genuine mistake.
