Please help/ I'm desperate

I am trying to open an email attachment. It was sent as a notepad. When I
open I get letters, numbers and symbols. I was advised that I need to intall
Adobe. I did so and I still get the same. What am I doing wrong? I am
deperate as this attachment is extremely important.

Go to www.adobe.com and click on the image that says download Adobe Acrobat
Reader. Install the reader and you should be fine, if the item is an Adobe
PDF file.

This is the wrong group for this type of question, however. :-)
