I just upgraded my linux install and now I can't boot.

After several days of playing with Linux I just told the update manager to
update all components of the OS and all installed programs.

After completing it's tasks my machine now refuses to boot. But will allow
me to boot to the old version of the OS.

This is a marginal improvement over a blue screen I suppose.

Back to Windows I go until you guys can get your act together...

How long is that going to be? Another century?

So few rational people do.

A million users a month are now converting to Linux and increasing.
Not long now!

Looks here folks - loads of LiveCDs free here...

Even if I were to try one new LiveCD a day, it will take me around
one and a half years to get through them ALL! Thats how much free

Yup, There is one Lintard OS version for every three Lintard users.

This says much about the quality of the Lintard OS, and of the ahahaha
quality of mind of the Lintard Lyoozer.

It's a shame really. It would be nice if there was a real choice in
operating systems rather than just the Microsoft Monopoly.

I guess you will have to look for a Linux group. After all this is a
Windows Vista group. At least it was refreshing to get a rant about
something other than Microsoft.

No not a republican. Al Gore is no different than
any other politician. Stretch the truth as far as
possible. As long as there's some truth in a
statement the whole statement must be true. And
anyways I can always say that is not what I meant.

This group is not a Vista group - its windowsxp.general :-)

Actually the OP cross posted to at least four groups, I eliminated at
least one in my response. I am responding via a VISTA group, sorry if it
was not clear.

my machine now refuses to boot.
Hm. Possible messages at this point.

[1] "LI-". Rerun /sbin/lilo -- if you can find a livedisc.
[2] "Missing operating system." Congratulations; you've
blasted the boot block! Find a livedisc and rerun
/sbin/lilo (for LILO) or grub (for GRUB).
[3] "Cannot find <xyz>". If you're using GRUB,
find a livedisc and fix the name.
[4] Screen is blank and remains so. See if your cat
(or your shoe) has accidentally stepped on the power
rocker switch on your power/surge suppressor strip
on the floor somewhere near your feet.
[5] Something else. Something else.
But will allow
me to boot to the old version of the OS.
OK, so boot to the old OS and fix /boot.

You're a marginal improvement over a troll. Of course, has it ever
occurred to you that the diagnostic information you've given us, plus
some ground coffee and hot water, might actually fill a cup?

Probably, if Microsoft can in fact get *its* act together
and ensure that each and every desktop machine implement
Trusted Computing(tm), The Computing Solution That Will
Fix Everything(tm). With Trusted Computing you need never
administer your machine again; it will be all done for you
by Microsoft, the INNOVA~1 company with the phunny ideas,
such as phishing, pharming, and phooling.

Microsoft. Where did you want it to go today?
